STARZ announces early preview of new documentary series “Down in the Valley”

STARZ has announced an “Early Preview” of its new documentary series Down in the valleya six-episode series that offers a poignant and entertaining exploration of the diverse Deep South. Hosted by Nicco Annan, known for his role as “Uncle Clifford” on the acclaimed STARZ drama series “P-Valley,” the series promises a captivating journey through the region’s rich culture and history.

The first episode, “Diamonds of Memphis,” will be available a week early on the STARZ app, beginning Friday, June 28 at midnight ET. For those watching on linear television, the episode will air as scheduled on STARZ, followed by the second episode, “Saints & Sinners,” on July 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S. and 10 p.m. ET in Canada.

Down in the valley Annan and viewers are immersed in the diverse world of the Deep South, which includes everything from strip clubs and sex workshops to rap performances and ancient hoodoo rituals. The series aims to address uncomfortable truths, challenge societal norms and advocate for a more inclusive future.

Produced by Zero Point Zero for STARZ, the series features an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Pulitzer Prize-winning author and “P-Valley” creator Katori Hall, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer Shoshana Guy as showrunner, and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producers Lydia Tenaglia and Chris Collins. Emmy Award-winning producer Jared Andrukanis also serves as co-executive producer.

Nicco Annan, who has won numerous awards including the NAACP Best Actor Award and the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema & Television’s Actor Award, brings his dynamic presence to the series, making for a captivating and insightful viewing experience.
