NFL insider reveals why the Packers still haven’t agreed to a contract extension with Jordan Love

In the near future, news will break that the Green Bay Packers have signed a contract extension with Jordan Love, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

General manager Brian Gutekunst has listed the start of training camp as a target for completion. Until then, we can expect everything to go as planned. However, it’s a bit surprising that it’s taken this long. In March, Gutekunst said they were in negotiations with Love’s team.

Because Love signed a one-year contract extension last offseason, the Packers couldn’t give him a new deal until May 3. When that date came, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before it became official. But the days and weeks went by, and there was still no significant update.

So why does it take so long?

Training camp is just around the corner and no deal has been finalized yet. ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided an update. He believes the massive contract extensions for Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence have had an impact.

“For a while, the Packers could argue, ‘Hey, we don’t think Jordan Love is worth the $55 million average the Bengals are giving Joe Burrow.’ But then Trevor Lawrence comes along and gets $55 million a year. We’re waiting for Tua Tagovailoa to get an extension,” Schefter said on the ESPN broadcast NFL Live.

“The numbers at the quarterback position have gone up, so Jordan Love can just wait for those quarterback deals to happen.”

It makes sense.

Love may want a new contract, but taking his time is a smart strategy. Had he agreed to the terms in May, the deal might have been $50 million a year. It might not even have been that much. But Goff’s $53 million contract extension and Lawrence’s $55 million are game-changers.

This now feels like the Starting point for Love’s upcoming extension. But he Despite it has yet to make a decision. Tagovailoa and Dak Prescott are getting new contracts. What if the Dallas Cowboys paid Prescott almost $60 million?

Would the Packers have to make a similar offer?
