Lil Nas X says he’s releasing “the best song ever” this week

Lil Nas X posted a teaser for his next single, “Here We Go!” on social media, telling fans he hopes they are as “proud” of it as he is.

Earlier this week, the 25-year-old shared the single’s cover art, which features a Detroit Police Department badge with a portrait photo of the singer. Nas X – real name Montero Hill – also shared in the caption that he feels more confident with his new musical approach.

“I’m so excited to release the best song ever this Friday!” wrote Hill. “And I’m also sorry for being so scared of my art lately. I’m coming back to myself. I’m going to make you very proud.”

Camila Cabello – who recently collaborated with Lil Nas X on the Kylie Minogue-sampling “He Knows” – commented on the post to show her support, writing: “Nature has seasons and so do we. There is no spring without winter. It’s your time to bloom, baby!”

Accordingly Billboard‘Here We Go!’ samples Crazy Frog’s 2005 hit ‘Axel F’. The song is also featured on the soundtrack of the latest episode of the Beverly Hills police officer film franchise, Beverly Hills Police officer: Axel F.which will be released on Netflix on July 3. Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as Axel Foley in the upcoming film.

“Here We Go!” will be Hill’s third solo release of the year. In January, he released his first gospel song, “J Christ,” which drew criticism from the Christian community. The cover of “J Christ” features Nas X hanging on a cross, similar to the narrative of Jesus’ crucifixion, and many called it a “mockery of Christ.” It also received the seal of approval from the Church of Satan.

The “Rodeo” star then said it was “depressing” to see the negative response to the song.

“I have never been at a point, mentally or physically, where you put your art out into the world and it is received negatively by the majority,” he told Jay Shetty recently at a performance in his Intentionally Podcast. “But then you have to understand why and get through it.” He added: “You can get super angry with yourself.”

He then released “Where Do We Go Now?”, which he wrote in collaboration with Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin. The introspective song was released ahead of his HBO Max documentary. Lil Nas X: Long live Montero.

Last May, Hill looked back at Beyoncé’s recent success in country music after she released her eighth studio album, “Cowboy Carter,” and said he “hadn’t even been able to experience the same level of success” with his record-breaking number one single, “Old Town Road,” which turned five years old this year.
