Apple Watch Series 10 design leak reveals new screen size

Apple Watch Series 10 design leak reveals new screen size

It is widely expected that Apple will give the Apple Watch Series X (or did Apple learn its lesson from the iPhone X and call it Series 10?) a new design this year as Apple soon celebrates the wearable’s 10th anniversary.

According to most leaks, the new Watch models will be thinner than before and may not fit existing straps. But only recently we learned about the alleged changes in the display size of the Apple Watch Series 10 models. Apple is reportedly increasing the screen size to 45 mm and 49 mm.

That would be a fantastic design upgrade that I’m looking forward to. Personally, I plan on upgrading my 40mm Apple Watch SE 2 this fall. I’ve been looking forward to the 41mm Apple Watch Series 10. But now it looks like the smaller model I want will have a 45mm screen, and it will hopefully be about the same overall dimension as the 41mm version.

I’m even more confident that the Apple Watch Series 10 screen size increase will actually become a reality after an alleged design render of the larger model leaked. The CAD renders for what could ultimately become the 49mm Apple Watch Series 10 offer actual size details for the wearable device.

Accordingly 91mobilesThe renderings come from unnamed industry insiders.

The device in the image above reportedly features a 2-inch display. That’s slightly larger than 49mm — 50.8mm to be exact. The report notes that the screen would be larger than the 1.93-inch screen on the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra and the 1.7-inch screen on the 45mm Apple Watch Series 9.

Furthermore, the CAD rendering states that the 49mm Apple Watch Series 10 will measure 46 x 39.7 x 11.6mm, making it larger than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 9 but smaller than the Apple Watch Ultra.

All these dimensions are surely confusing. To get a better perspective, let’s look at the current design and screen details of the Apple Watch.

First, here is a visual comparison between the 40mm Apple Watch SE 2, the 45mm Apple Watch Series 9 and the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra 2:

If the above design leak is true, the Apple Watch Series 10 will have a larger display than the Ultra 2. However, the case will be thinner and take up less space than the Ultra.

Let’s also look at Apple’s screen specifications for the same three Apple Watch models:

If the CAD design leak is real, the 49mm Apple Watch Series 10 should have a display similar to the Ultra 2 in terms of both pixels and display area. Accordingly, the 45mm Apple Watch Series 10 that I want will likely have the 45mm display size of the Series 9.

Finally, let’s look at the official dimensions of the same three Apple Watch models:

For the 45 mm Series 9 and the 49 mm Ultra 2, we have cases with dimensions of 45 x 38 x 10.7 mm and 49 x 44 x 14.4 mm in mind. According to the leak, the dimensions of the 49 mm Watch 10 are exactly in between at 46 x 39.7 x 11.6 mm.

If this leak is true, the smaller 45mm Apple Watch Series 10 will likely be 11.6mm thick. But it should be taller and wider than the current 41mm Series 9 model.

All I know is that I want the smallest Apple Watch possible with the biggest screen possible and the best battery life possible, so I’m hoping this leak is true and that Apple does indeed increase the screen sizes to 45mm and 49mm.
