Armie Hammer says he is “grateful” for “career death” after cannibal allegations

(TMX) – Armie Hammer is discussing the aftermath of the shocking allegations of cannibalism and sexual abuse that abruptly ended his Hollywood career.

In 2021, Hammer, 37, was accused by several women of abusive and disturbing behavior, including allegations that he openly fantasized about cannibalism. The Instagram account House of Effie started the case by sharing screenshots allegedly showing Hammer asking a partner if he could “cut off one of your toes and keep it in my pocket so I always have a piece of you with me,” calling himself “100% cannibal.”

Effie Angelova, 26, accused Hammer of raping her and abusing her “mentally, emotionally and sexually” during their relationship in 2017. Another ex-girlfriend, Courtney Vucekovich, told Page Six that Hammer told her “he wanted to break my rib, grill it and eat it.”

Hammer has denied the allegations.

During an appearance on the “Painful Lessons” podcast on Sunday, Hammer said he was now “grateful for every single bit” of the consequences of the allegations.

“People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them,” Hammer said. “They said, ‘Yeah, the guy ate people.’ So what? What are you talking about? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I supposed to be a cannibal? It was bizarre.”

Hammer claimed there were “inconsistencies in what people have said,” but added that he is nevertheless “at a point in his life now where I am grateful for every single bit of it.”

“Before all this happened to me, I was not doing well in my life. I was never satisfied, I never had enough, I was never at a place where I was happy with myself and had self-esteem,” Hammer said.

“I never knew how to give myself love. I never knew how to give myself appreciation, but I had this job where I could get it from so many people that I never had to learn how to give it to myself,” he said.

Along with his career, Hammer’s marriage also came to an end. Ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers filed for divorce in 2020 after ten years of marriage, just months before the shocking allegations came to light. They have two children, Harper, 9, and Ford, 7.

“It was the death of my ego and my career. A neutron bomb exploded in my life. It destroyed (everything),” Hammer said.

He even admitted to attempting suicide.

“There were many moments when I thought, I can’t take this anymore. I was hated,” he said. “I stood on the shore, swam out and just lay there… But I thought, ‘I couldn’t do that to my children.'”

Hammer said he hasn’t completely given up working in Hollywood. Although his acting career is over, he has been writing a screenplay.
