Police could charge several people in connection with Matthew Perry’s death

Police have released new evidence into the death of Matthew Perry after launching an investigation into his death.

A law enforcement source told PEOPLE on Tuesday that the investigation is “nearing completion” – and that they believe “multiple people” should be charged in connection with the “Friends” actor’s death last October.

The source said the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which responded with “no comment” on Tuesday, will decide whether or not to file charges.

Perry was found dead in the hot tub of his home in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles on October 28 at the age of 54.

Initial reports suggested he drowned, but a toxicology report confirmed he died from the acute effects of ketamine. The cause of death was listed as accidental.

Contributing factors include drowning, coronary heart disease and the effects of buprenorphine.

In May, TMZ learned from law enforcement sources that they had launched an investigation into where Perry got the ketamine – and who provided him with the toxic drug.

According to TMZ, both local police and the Drug Enforcement Administration are involved in the investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department launched an initial investigation into Perry’s death late last year, but it was closed in January.

According to Perry’s autopsy report, there were 3.54 micrograms of ketamine per milliliter in his blood at the time of his death, almost three times the normal amount.

Ketamine expert and author Dr. Philip Wolfson told The Post in December that Perry had far too much ketamine in his system.

“He really did kill himself. He must have taken a large amount. That’s not something you do when you go swimming or go to a swimming pool of any kind,” Wolfson said.

In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry spoke openly about his decades-long battle with addiction.

In the book, he revealed that he received ketamine infusions at a Swiss rehabilitation clinic during the pandemic.

“Ketamine was a very popular street drug in the 1980s. Today there is a synthetic form of it and it is used for two reasons: pain relief and depression,” he said, adding: “It is totally in my name – they might as well have called it ‘Matty.'”

Perry described taking the drug as a “giant exhale” and explained that he “dissociates” during the infusions and often feels like he is “dying.”

“‘Oh,’ I thought, ‘that’s what happens when you die,'” he said in his book. “And yet I kept signing up for this shit because it was different, and anything different is good.”

Perry’s autopsy revealed that he had received his last ketamine treatment a week and a half before his death.

Perry played the legendary role of Chandler Bing in all 10 seasons of “Friends” from 1994 to 2004.

His five former co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt Le Blanc – paid their last respects when he was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills in November.

His father John Bennett Perry, his mother Suzanne Perry and his stepfather Keith Morrison as well as his sisters and relatives also attended the funeral.
