Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans search for Santa Claus in the Red One trailer

Ho-ho-hold on to your hats, folks – it may only be June, but it’s never too early to get in the holiday spirit! Amazon MGM Studios just released the first trailer for Jake Kasdan’s (“Jumanji”) upcoming Christmas action film Red Onein which Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, two opposing security chiefs and bounty hunters, are tasked with tracking down a missing Santa Claus – who happens to be played by a muscular JK Simmons (of course). Polar bear heavyweights! Snowmen throw themselves down! The Rock slaps Krampus in the face! The Miracle on 34th Street it certainly isn’t. Rather, it looks like we’re getting a big, adventurous, star-studded Christmas blockbuster for the whole family, bolstered by Evans and Johnson’s boundless charisma and some slick-looking action scenes, all wrapped up in an intriguing fantasy-inspired mystery. Here’s the official synopsis: “After Santa Claus (Simmons) – codenamed ‘Red One’ – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s security chief (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most notorious bounty hunter (Evans) on a globe-spanning, action-packed mission to save Christmas.”

Also joining in the festive brawling and fun are Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll and Wesley Kimmel. Red One hits US theaters on November 15, with a UK release via Warner Bros. also expected sometime in November. Whether the film will be a Christmas smash or a major blockbuster, only time will tell. But when we see Maui and Captain America teaming up to find J. Jonah Jameson, you can be sure we’ll be sitting down – every day is Christmas Eve!
