Caleb Williams needs to focus on the Bears, not Jordan Love and the Packers

Pro Bowler and Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Rashan Gary spoke with Rich Eisen about the NFC North quarterback room. Gary and Eisen discussed Green Bay’s expectations for quarterback Jordan Love, playing the Eagles in Brazil and facing Chicago Bears rookie Caleb Williams in what is expected to be a very competitive NFC North.

Packers Wire wrote this about Jordan Love:

“Jordan Love was the opposite of ‘Captain Checkdown’ as a starter in his first year for the Green Bay Packers in 2023. According to Pro Football Focus, Love checked the ball down just five times on 184 third-down dropbacks last season, and his 2.72 third-down checkdown percentage ranked fourth among quarterbacks with 100 or more third-down dropbacks.

“A checkdown is typically described as a short pass to a player below him, usually a running back. In most passing plays, the checkdown is a safety valve used when passing options further down the field are unavailable. Love rarely used the checkdown option even as a first-year starter. And he was especially aggressive on third down.”

Caleb Williams was criticized for not checking as much at USC, but he can’t compare himself to Jordan Love. He just has to do what he has to do with the Bears and fit into Chicago’s system.
