Critics are on the rise in large numbers before Bronny James learns her fate in the NBA Draft

Sirius XM and First Take’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo was on the Dan Patrick Show to discuss where the 2023-24 NBA Champion Boston Celtics rank against some of the best teams of all time. He also talked about Bronny James ahead of the NBA Draft. Russo isn’t the biggest Bronny James fan and questions his NBA Draft status.

It’s not hard to form skepticism about Bronny James as an NBA talent. It’s not even a negative commentary on James himself. He just didn’t have enough time or health to fully develop. In July 2023, he suffered a cardiac arrest. That prevented him from taking a full offseason of prep at USC under Andy Enfield. He couldn’t play with his USC teammates on their summer tour of Europe. He started playing in the middle of the college basketball season and had to play catch-up in terms of adjusting to the speed of the college game. It’s not that Bronny lacks skills; it’s that he hasn’t had the time it generally takes to develop a certain skill set. Bronny was supposed to play a second year of college basketball. Why isn’t he? Because the opportunity to play alongside LeBron James is (most likely) an overwhelming factor in moving to the pros sooner than you otherwise would.

It’s up to Bronny James to prove Chris Russo wrong, but that might take some time. Bronny needs more of that.
