In an interview with 11-year-old influencer Taylen Biggs, Cabello recalled her first encounter with Swift about a decade ago at the MTV VMAs when she was still with Fifth Harmony.

According to Cabello, their first meeting meant a lot to her, as Swift taught the then 17-year-old a lot about songwriting. “I was maybe 16 or 17 when I met one of my songwriting heroes, Taylor Swift. I saw her and Lorde sitting together. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Taylor Swift. I have to go up to both of them and tell them I love them.’ They were both so sweet.”

Cabello added that she was having a lot of trouble with songwriting at the time: “I was having a hard time getting out of that creative rut. I thought to myself, ‘Who can I ask about songwriting? Taylor Swift.’ I thought to myself, ‘What would you say if you had a lot of self-doubt and you were feeling a little stuck?'”

The former Fifth Harmony singer recalled Swift giving her some poignant advice: “I don’t even know if she remembers, it was so long ago. She said, ‘When that happens to me, (I’ll) just keep writing. You just have to keep going, keep writing.'”

“When you hear those voices of self-doubt, just keep going,” Swift continued. “You will find yourself on the other side.”

Cabello has revealed in the past, Billboard that she has been a fan of Swift since she was 13 and that the two have been friends ever since. In 2018, Cabello opened for Swift’s “Reputation” stadium tour. In 2019, the two performed together at the 2019 American Music Awards.

Swift is currently on the European leg of her career-long “Eras” tour, while Cabello will release her fourth solo album, “C, XOXO,” on June 28.

Cabello’s last album, “Familia,” was released in 2022 and she has said in the past that the record “saved her life.”

In a four-star review from “Familia” NME described the album as “razor-sharp satire and plenty of emo horror,” adding, “The Havana-born, Miami-raised singer delights with songs that deal with anxiety, simmering sexual jealousy and the loneliness of a long-distance relationship.”
