Michigan State Spartans secure commitment from Aydan West

Three-star cornerback Aydan West has committed to the Michigan State Spartans, making him the Spartans’ 12th signing in this class and their second defensive back. West announced his decision on Tuesday. 2025 long snapper Jack Wills also committed to the Spartans on the same day.

West is the No. 103 cornerback in his class according to 247Sports and the 34th-ranked player in his home state of Maryland.

The Quince Orchard High School product received an offer from the Spartans late in his recruitment – on June 4, with West setting a goal to make a decision by July.

His 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction originally favored Virginia.

The Spartans quickly changed things around for West and scheduled the official visit for the last weekend before the summer break, June 21-23.

The visit was crucial for the Spartans. They showed him everything he needed to see.

“My official visit to Michigan State was incredible. They gave me a great time and showed me how important I am to them,” West told me. “They showed me what they see in me and what they have to offer. They gave me a great time.”

Cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin was a major factor in West’s commitment to the Green-Whites. West praised Martin’s ability to develop players and his commitment to his players.

“The history of his players shows who he is. He gives you all the tools you need to be successful, you just have to show it,” West said. “So he’s a great coach, he knows what he’s talking about, he’s got a lot of experience. He’s a very wise person.”

West said the Spartans are confident he will be an impact player right from the start and can help turn the tide for the Spartans.

West is the second defensive back the Spartans have signed from the Class of 2025 as part of their recruiting campaign, following cornerback George Mullins. Mullins was another Spartan who arrived in East Lansing the weekend of June 21.

The two cornerbacks give the Spartans long-term potential, especially given the transfer additions the Spartans have made.

It will be interesting to see what the signing of the two 2025 cornerbacks will mean for the recruitment of LaRue Zamorano, another cornerback who favored the Spartans after his visit on May 31. West’s signing should send a message to the college football world that the Spartans are always in the running when it comes to recruiting players, no matter how late they come to the party.
