Top 20 Value Gold: Best wines under £15 from DWWA 2024

It’s a great pleasure to enjoy top-quality wines that don’t break the bank. But often these affordable wines are placed next to each other on crowded shelves, making it difficult to know which ones are just good enough and which ones are the best.

Decanter World Wine Awards The (DWWA) results help you narrow down a diverse selection of Value Gold wines to a selection of the top 20 wines you must try.

What the value of gold means

At DWWAWines costing less than £15 a bottle fall into the ‘value’ category, with the best of these being awarded ‘Value Gold’. These wines represent outstanding quality at good value for money and are ‘everyday wines’ that offer more than you’d expect for their price.

As part of the competition Unique assessment processPrice band categorization (besides country, region, color, style and vintage) means that Judge can assess wines and develop an understanding of what they offer for the price, ensuring that whether you spend £15 or £50, you are getting the best quality wine for your investment.

Co-Chairman of the DWWA Beth Willard explained: “At the end of the day, people go to supermarkets, they go to big retailers, and we don’t all have £50 to spend on a bottle of wine every night.”

“In the Value category, we look for wines that are absolutely delicious and have great character and identity. When consumers see the Decanter Gold Medal Value sticker on the bottle, they know it’s a great bottle of wine.”

Co-Chairman, Michael Hill Smith AM MW added: “We make absolutely sure that we really select the best wines and then give them a little nudge so that they are really recognised as good value under £15.”

The Top 20 Value Gold Selection

The competition’s Top 20 Value Gold picks go one step further than Value Gold.

Wines are awarded Value Gold in the first week after being blind-tasted and confirmed by a regional panel and co-chair. In a second round, all confirmed Value Gold wines are tasted again by the co-chairs, who award the very best wines.

This year’s selection (compared to 10 last year) is a treasure trove of international wines that you can take home and taste now.

From affordable Bordeaux and Argentinian Malbec to new discoveries like Bulgarian rosé and Italian Teroldego, the 2024 Top 20 Value Gold list is our answer to great wines at great prices.
