Chris Jans signs exciting player for Mississippi State basketball team

There is a lot of excitement surrounding Mississippi State basketball. After two consecutive 20-win seasons and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, the Bulldogs finally seem ready to emerge as a competitive team.

State brings back one of the best scorers in the country in Josh Hubbard, along with one of the best do-it-all players in the country in Cam Matthews. They just signed the nation’s fifth-ranked transfer portal class to complete their 2024-2025 roster. And head coach Chris Jans signed a major contract extension that makes him one of the 15 highest-paid coaches in college basketball.

The 2024-2025 season is expected to be the best we’ve seen at Mississippi State University in several years, and now Chris Jans is making a move that should generate even more excitement about the direction of the program.

Chris Jans is entering the world of analytics with the hiring of Jordan Sperber of Hoop Vision. Sperber, who previously worked with Chris Jans as video coordinator at New Mexico State, ran Hoop Vision, a company focused on providing analytical data for college basketball and consulting for coaches.

Sperber’s specialty is his ability to use analytics to analyze teams and uncover their strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. With Sperber on the team, the Bulldogs can profile their competition more accurately than before and, ideally, gain an advantage on the field.

When the news broke that Mississippi State had hired Jordan Sperber, the college basketball community at “X” made it clear: This is a brilliant move by Chris Jans.

It looks like Mississippi State is getting an absolutely brilliant basketball player in Jordan Sperber. Chris Jans is already a great coach and now he is bringing in a player who could help him lead the Bulldogs to the top of the SEC.
