Billy Ray Cyrus and his estranged wife Firerose accuse each other of abuse after divorcing after just seven months of marriage.

In a court document filed Monday in Williamson County Chancery Court in Tennessee and obtained Tuesday by USA TODAY, Cyrus responded to Firerose’s June 14 counterclaim, claiming the marriage was “procured by fraud.”

In this case, 36-year-old Firerose is referred to as Johanna Rosie Hodges.

The 62-year-old singer claims Firerose’s “abuse allegations only served to amplify her false accusations by using the word ‘abuse.'”

Cyrus adds that while he would “acknowledge that he was certainly vocal, frustrated and angry with the defendant (Firerose) in May 2024, in reality it was the plaintiff (Cyrus) who was abused.” He claims he was “not only verbally and emotionally” abused by Firerose, “but physically” by her as well.

According to People and Entertainment Tonight, Firerose claimed in her countersuit earlier this month that she was verbally, emotionally and psychologically abused by Cyrus.

“The wife was exposed to her husband’s persistent drug use, which included marijuana use, which made the husband unpredictable and volatile toward his wife,” the document states.

Cyrus’ representatives declined to comment. USA TODAY has reached out to Firerose’s attorneys for comment.

Billy Ray Cyrus claims Firerose “hid” information to force a marriage.

On May 23, Cyrus, the father of Miley Cyrus, filed for divorce from Firerose. In his filing, Cyrus cited irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as the main reasons, according to People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight.

In his Monday filing, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer claimed he left home after finding out in May that Hodges was not his wife’s maiden name. He claims the Australian musician lied about her name “to force a marriage” and there are “other things in her past that she is hiding from him.”

In her countersuit, Firerose claimed, according to People and ET, that Cyrus promised to cover the cost of the procedure and filed for divorce one day before her scheduled double mastectomy on May 24, which is why she had to delay the preventative procedure.

She said she found out in 2020 that she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation.

Cyrus responded that he did not learn of this aspect of her health history until after her wedding, claiming that while she had a doctor’s appointment for May 24, her surgery was not scheduled until June 6. He denied offering to cover the uncovered costs of the procedure, claiming that Firerose said there would be no out-of-pocket costs.

He also says Firerose threatened that if he tried to divorce her, she would “tell everyone you did it because of the bilateral mastectomy and then your career would be over.”

In April 2022, ex-wife Tish Cyrus-Purcell filed for divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus, citing irreconcilable differences.

They have children together: Braison, Noah and Miley Cyrus, as well as Trace and Brandi Cyrus, Tish’s children from a previous relationship. Billy Ray Cyrus also has a 32-year-old son, Christopher Cody, with his ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey.
