The Atlanta Braves made a change to their starting lineup this week, sending former Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale to face his old club on Thursday afternoon.

Sale will be with the Braves in Chicago on Thursday for a make-up game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, and he will look to improve on his excellent statistics so far this season.

Sale leads the MLB in wins with 10 this season. In 14 starts, he has compiled a record of 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA, striking out 107 batters in 86.2 innings.

This is Sale’s third time facing the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. In his previous two appearances, he struck out 19 batters in 11 innings, allowed five earned runs, and earned wins in each of the two games for the Red Sox.

The left-hander was traded to the Boston Red Sox after the 2016 season and got off to a good start in Beantown, finishing second in the Cy Young voting in his first season. He finished fourth in the Cy Young voting in 2018, but more importantly, he won his first World Series ring with the Red Sox.

Due to injuries, Sale only played 31 times over the next three seasons, and the Red Sox traded him to the Braves in the offseason. After that trade, Sale signed a two-year contract with the Braves, with an option for a third season.

During his career with the White Sox, Sale posted a record of 74-50 with a 3.00 ERA, struck out 10.1 batters per nine innings, and finished in the top 10 in Cy Young voting in five consecutive seasons before being traded.

Sale will throw the first pitch on Thursday afternoon at 3:10 p.m.
