Jennifer Garner is not looking forward to August because she will have to say goodbye with a bittersweet heart to her firstborn, Violet (18), who is going to college.
The Hollywood star has spoken openly about her difficulties in coping with the upcoming change, and most recently on the Today Show, the Alias The actress spoke in more detail about Violet’s big year and how she felt about it.
She recently shared footage of herself crying at Violet’s high school graduation, telling hosts Hoda Kotb and Sheinelle Jones, “The whole month leading up to it, I was devastated. Every awards show, every finale, everything, I just cried over and over and over.”
But when the actual day came, Jennifer was nothing but proud. She added: “The day (of graduation) was so beautiful that I could only be proud and happy.”
Violet will reportedly leave the nest and visit Vale. The teenager, like Jennifer’s other two children, Fin (15) and Samuel (12), is known to be reserved.
But Jennifer, who has children with her ex-husband Ben Affleck, recently gave a rare insight into her children’s personalities and revealed that all three have inherited her sense of humor.
During an appearance on Dr. Aliza Pressman’s podcast, Raising good peoplethe star talked about her biggest hope for all her children, which is that it would be fun.
“Funny is the most important thing. Please be funny, that’s why I have you,” she joked. Fortunately, her wish seems to have come true: “Check, check, check, that’s a thing, thank God!” she concluded.
The star went on to talk about the importance of having her own life to give her children the space to grow and be themselves. More than one of Jennifer and Ben’s children graduated this year.
Her youngest son Ben left primary school earlier this month and, like his older sister, received a special graduation ceremony attended by his parents, siblings and his stepmother Jennifer Lopez and her twins Emme and Max (16).
Jennifer was touched when she thought about Samuel’s departure from the school, because all three of her children had attended this school in their early years.
Shortly after Samuel’s departure, the actress wrote an emotional tribute to the teachers on Instagram, giving insight into her children’s childhood and showing how much she valued the school as a safe place for her children, away from the media hype.
She noted, “Thank you for being a safe haven for my family,” and “I wanted my three to have a safe place to focus on what it means to be little and where education and character are the focus.”
