Report: Multiple people could be charged in Matthew Perry’s death

The investigation Friends The death of Hollywood star Matthew Perry from the acute effects of ketamine could soon lead to charges.

According to PEOPLE, a law enforcement source told the outlet that authorities’ investigation is “nearing completion” and police believe “multiple people” should be charged.

The source added that the final decision on whether to file charges rests with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A representative of the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment. Weekly entertainment on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the investigation into Perry’s death was ongoing but had no further information on the matter, and the DEA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28 and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 54 years old. At the time, authorities said there was no evidence of foul play.

In December, an autopsy report found that Perry’s death was caused by ketamine and that drowning, coronary heart disease and buprenorphine (a drug used to treat opioid use disorder) also contributed to the death.

The autopsy report also noted that Perry had been receiving a ketamine infusion at the time of his death. However, because ketamine has a short half-life, the traces of the substance in his body could not have come from any of those treatment sessions.

Last month, Los Angeles Police Captain Scot Williams told EW that the investigation into Perry’s death was never completed, despite a report suggesting otherwise. “Based on the medical examiner’s findings, the Los Angeles Police Department, with the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Postal Inspection Service, has continued its investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Perry’s death,” Williams said in an email.

Perry, who has been nominated for an Emmy five times, was best known for his role as the sarcastic but sweet Chandler Bing in the NBC series Friendswhich became a ratings hit and a cultural phenomenon during its 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.
