“Multiple people” could be charged in Matthew Perry’s overdose death

“Several people” could be charged in connection with Friends According to a law enforcement source, star Matthew Perry died last year from the acute effects of ketamine.

People reported that the source claimed that the investigation into Perry’s death was “nearing completion” and that law enforcement believes “several people” should be charged.

They also said the final decision on whether or not to file charges will rest with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said The Independent They have “no comment” on the matter.

Nearly seven months after Perry’s death in October 2023, when he died at the age of 54, a federal and local investigation was launched to determine who supplied the actor with the ketamine that led to his death.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) are involved in the investigation into how Perry came into possession of such large quantities of ketamine, the LAPD confirmed on Tuesday.

The DEA previously announced The Independent that it “neither confirms nor comments on ongoing investigations.” The Independent has also reached out to USPS for comment.

On October 28, 2023, rescue workers found Perry unconscious in the hot tub of his Pacific Palisades home. The actor was pronounced dead at the scene.

A toxicology report confirmed he died from “acute effects of ketamine,” which caused the actor to drown in the hot waters. Sources close to the actor said he had undergone ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety.

However, his last infusion therapy occurred a week and a half before his death. The medical examiner determined that the ketamine in Matthew’s body “could not have come from this infusion therapy, as the half-life of ketamine is three to four hours or less.”

His autopsy, released in December, found that the amount of ketamine in his blood was in the range of the amount used for anesthesia during surgery. Ketamine was listed as the primary cause of death and it was ruled an accident with no foul play suspected, the report said.

Factors contributing to his death included drowning, coronary heart disease and the effects of buprenorphine, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Authorities are looking for the person who may have provided a secondary source of the drug and whether Perry received narcotics through the mail. TMZ who was the first to announce the news.

Authorities believe they may help them track down Perry’s ketamine dealer, but so far no arrests have been made.

Federal postal inspectors will also utilize their tracking software, mail investigative tools, and industry expertise as part of their investigations. Under USPIS policy, first-class letters and packages may not be searched or seized for drugs because they are protected by the Fourth Amendment and may not be searched without a warrant.

Perry’s drug addiction reached a crisis after a jet ski accident in 1997 in which he became addicted to Vicodin, a powerful opioid-based painkiller.

Over the course of his life, he spent $9 million on his battle with abstinence, attended 6,000 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and stayed in rehab a total of 15 times, he wrote in his 2022 memoir. Friends, lovers and the big, terrible thing.

By 2021, he said he had overcome his addiction.
