Cologne’s most famous goat makes prediction before Scotland vs. Switzerland

A goat has given its prediction for Scotland’s crucial Euro 2024 match against Switzerland on Wednesday evening.

In the opening game of the tournament, Steve Clarke’s team lost 5-1 to Germany, so a defeat in Cologne would have effectively meant the end for them.

Before the match, the local zoo asked Hennes, the mascot of 1. FC Köln, to “predict” the result by kicking one of three yellow balls – one with the St. Andrew’s Cross, one with the Swiss flag and one with the Euro 2024 logo – to indicate a draw.

The Bunte Deutsche Edelziege goat initially seemed to hesitate in her choice and had a brief argument with her trainer, but finally she placed her hoof firmly on the ball to signal Scotland.

Hennes is actually Hennes IX. The club has had a goat mascot since 1950, with all goats being named after Hennes Weisweiler, the first coach of 1. FC Köln.

The German film comedy The Super Bulls is based on the kidnapping of the goat and the task of the police officers Tommie and Mario to get it back.

However, Hennes’ powers as a lucky charm are not one hundred percent assured – 1. FC Cologne were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.
