RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Flying Squirrels finally return to the friendly surroundings of the diamond this week for a six-game series against the Somerset Patriots.

The Squirrels finished the first half of the Eastern League regular season with a 2-1 win on the road in Portland, Maine against the Sea Dogs on Sunday. Richmond finished the first half of the season in third place in the Eastern League’s Southwest Division.

Before the series, 8News met with Squirrels manager Dennis Pelfrey, who said he was pleased with how the first half of the season went.

“We’ve played really good baseball for the most part all season,” Pelfrey said. “I had a meeting with the guys today. There were about 10 games where we let things go a little bit in our favor. If we had won just five of them, we would have won the first half.”

The only other time this season that Richmond faced Somerset was the Squirrels’ first series of the year.

The Squirrels’ first game in their six-game series against Somerset begins at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday night.
