Meghan McCain: Taylor Swift can “only go downhill from here”

Meghan McCain is a fan of Taylor Swift, but she is certainly “not a Swiftie.”

The host of the podcast “Citizen McCain” shared her true feelings for the popular global star on Monday, claiming that Swift had “no other option at this point than to get out.”

McCain, 39, mentioned that Swift – whose relationship with Travis Kelce has been dominating headlines for months – was named Time magazine’s 2023 “Person of the Year” before pointing out the singer’s incredibly successful and long-running Eras tour.

“I think when she’s done touring, it would be helpful for her and for us as commentators to take a little break from her constant media hype,” the former View co-host explained.

“I feel like I’m living in this Groundhog Day of Trump, Biden, Taylor Swift; Trump, Biden, Taylor Swift. Those are the only topics Americans are allowed to talk about on the news all day. And I think they would benefit from a little beat.”

Despite her comments, McCain stressed that she does not “dislike” 34-year-old Swift. On the contrary, she apparently has high expectations of her.

The political commentator described the Grammy winner as “one of the greatest in American history” on an “Elvis level,” and believes the singer should have waited to release the versions of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” in the UK, which helped the record stay at number one in the charts.

McCain agrees with critics who believe Swift intentionally prevented Brit Charli XCX’s album “Brat,” which was released earlier this month and peaked at No. 2, from reaching the top spot.

“I really think when you get to 35 and you’re the greatest of all time and there are a few people after him who could have their first No. 1 and you have the power to give them the No. 1 or not, I just don’t know how classy that is,” McCain said.

“And I also think that karmically, you’re messing up some things. And I understand that The Tortured Poets Department does that well and whatever, but I think that maybe it would be more interesting to focus more on music and art instead of tapping a scoreboard.”

The daughter of the late US Senator John McCain also found it “strange” that Sabrina Carpenter appeared in an advertising campaign for the Skims brand of her well-known Swift opponent Kim Kardashian during a break from her performance as the opening act on the Eras Tour.

Carpenter, for her part, claimed that she had “spoken very, very much to (Swift) about this situation” and insisted that the appearance had not caused her friend any “distress” or “oddities”.

According to McCain, this meant that the singer “basically…got permission from Taylor Swift before doing an ad campaign for Kim Kardashian.”

“Was she afraid of retaliation from Taylor Swift or Taylor Swift’s fans?” wondered the mother of two, adding: “What would Taylor Swift do? Like hurt her in the middle of the night? Set her fans on her?”

Although McCain called the Swifties “very aggressive,” she was not afraid to undoubtedly upset them.
