Cowboys train with four UFL players, including the grandson of a famous musician

The back end of an NFL roster can sometimes be a bit of a musical chairs affair. How about adding the grandson of a music legend to the team?

Dallas practiced with four UFL players on Tuesday, including Wyatt Ray, outside linebacker for the San Antonio Brahmas and grandson of famous musician Nat King Cole. His aunt is Natalie Cole, who was also a singer and actress.

Ray, a former Boston College product, has bounced around the NFL. He went undrafted in 2019 and spent time on several different NFL rosters before making his first appearance in a game with the Tennessee Titans in 2020. Ray also spent time on the active rosters for the Bengals and Broncos, but he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2022. He has two career sacks.

Ray, 27, played for the San Antonio Brahmas last season. According to Pro Football Focus, he had seven sacks and 29 pressures on 260 pass rushing attempts.

The Cowboys also worked out with former Green Bay Packers defensive end Jonathan Garvin and former Sam Houston State defensive end Derick Roberson. Garvin had 3.5 sacks for the Birmingham Stallions last season. Roberson had 26 pressures and six sacks for the DC Defenders last season.

Dallas also coached fullback John Lovett, who also played for the Brahmas this season. Lovett scored six touchdowns last season.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Cowboys had not signed any of the four.

The Cowboys have already signed two other UFL players this offseason: linebacker Willie Harvey Jr. and former first-round cornerback Gareon Conley.
