Famous Peloton trainer defends her beliefs

Six months after a viral moment in which she defended her faith from social media trolls, well-known Peloton trainer and part-time actress Kendall Toole announced that she is leaving her post at the community health and fitness brand.

Toole, 31, vowed to stay active on social media and thanked the vocal Peloton community for their unwavering support, with many commenting that she was “the only reason” they signed up or stayed active.

“Thank you for riding with me, sweating with me, crying with me, growing and evolving with me, and for every single way we have stepped up to be there for ourselves so we can be there for those around us,” she told her more than 950,000 followers on Instagram.

The former Peloton trainer is known for her unwavering commitment to fitness, mental health, and her Christian faith. While her fans applaud her for that tenacity, quoting her father’s mantra, “They can knock you down, but they can’t knock you out,” her faith is earning her the ire of those same people.

In January, Kendall Toole was heavily criticized for being “too preachy.” One commenter specifically commented on her signature cross necklace. This began her Instagram retort, which made national headlines within hours. In her post, Toole shared her eagerness to share that faith no matter where she is.

It is not only okay, but beautiful, to be open about your faith and spiritual practice while also LOVE and RESPECT the faith of others.

What has changed in these six months? There may be a lot of speculation, but the facts are unclear.

It’s not as if she’s had the easy road to fame. Her journey to the top hasn’t been without serious detours, starting with her faith and commitment to mental health. Two years ago, Toole spoke on NBC’s “Today” show about being diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder at age 10, battling a suicide attempt, and living with anxiety and depression.

Toole has no problem speaking her mind, so few familiar with her fame were surprised when her Instagram post defending her beliefs went viral.

With persuasive power and deep humility, Kendall Toole created no obstacles to her calling. Instead, she took the time to comfort others who were judged and hurt by the insensitivity of others.

“Many times, myself included, people have used religion, and often Christianity, to justify their judgmental and hateful actions to boost their own identity and ego. But that is not the essence of Christianity, in fact the exact opposite,” she wrote in her defense.

Although Toole shares her Christian faith on her platform, she has also attended services at mosques, temples and mandirs with her friends of each faith.

“I think it’s all wonderful – I don’t think I’m above or below anyone,” she said.

Despite her pride in what she does and her courageous stance in protecting her walk with God, Kendall Toole put her stand aside and left Peloton after five years with the organization.

“After careful consideration and many, many, many hours of reflection, I have decided to end my chapter at Peloton,” she wrote. “Before we get too emotional, I don’t want you to think I’m saying goodbye. I’m not. This is just a change. I will continue to be upfront on social media and well beyond. This is more of a ‘see you in the next chapter’ type of energy. Stay tuned for what’s next and I’ll see you on the next adventure. Love you.”

At the time of this post, Toole has not given a clear reason for her departure. Her last live class with Peloton will be on June 29.
