Will Sarah Paulson or Jeremy Strong join the Triple Crown of Acting club after the Tony Awards? – GoldDerby

To date, there are 24 outstanding personalities (living and deceased) who have won the highly competitive Oscar, Emmy and Tony Awards. The so-called Triple Crown of Acting – see list below. And there’s no joking around.

Glenda Jackson became the latest addition to the club when she won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for “Three Tall Women.” (Her two Oscars for Best Actress came in 1970 for “Love in Love” and 1973 for “A Touch of Class,” while “Elizabeth R.” earned her two Emmys in 1972.)

While the recent 77th Tony Awards didn’t produce another Triple Crown Acting champion (there was no Oscar and Emmy winner without a Tony in the running), it’s possible that some unsuspecting actor was set up to become the 25th name on the above list, and so the awards story gets more intriguing.

I start with Sarah Paulsonwho accepted the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for “Appropriate.” (It was her first Tony nomination.) She previously won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” in 2016. (She has also received seven other Emmy nominations in various categories over the past 12 years.) Could the Oscar be next?

Although Paulson has not yet received an Academy Award, she has appeared in a number of Oscar-nominated films. “12 Years a Slave” (Best Picture 2013). “Carol” (2015) received six nominations – including Best Actress for Cate Blanchett and Best Supporting Actress for Rooney MaraAnd 2017’s “The Post,” which was nominated for both Best Picture and Best Actress. Meryl Streep.

Paulson has also delivered outstanding performances in several other acclaimed films, including Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011), Mud (2013), and Run (2020). As a highly respected actress with an impressive filmography, she would only need the right role in the right film to walk away with the Oscar.

Consider that in recent years a number of actresses have been successful on their first attempt at the Academy Awards, such as Ariana DeBose (Best Supporting Actress 2021 for “West Side Story”), Michelle Yeoh And Jamie Lee Curtis (Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress of 2022 for the best film “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Best Supporting Actress 2023 for “The Holdovers”). So it would not be impossible that someone like Paulson could soon hold an Oscar in his hands himself.

Of course, the next Triple Crown winner could be someone else—someone else who won the most recent Tony Awards.

I refer to Jeremy StarkBest Actor in a Play for “An Enemy of the People.” (Like Paulson, he won the Tony on his first win.) He can put his statuette next to the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, which he won in 2020 for “Succession.” Could the Oscar be the next in his winning streak?

It may seem premature to call Strong an Oscar winner. Like Paulson, he has yet to be nominated for film’s most prestigious award. However, his films include several that are in contention for Best Picture – such as “Lincoln” and “Zero Dark Thirty” (2012), “Selma” (2014), “The Big Short” (2015) and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (2020). And most of these roles came before his acclaimed work in the television series “Succession.” One can only assume that Strong will continue to be gifted with even bigger and more challenging roles on the big screen in the years to come. With the right material in a top-notch vehicle, Strong could have a good chance of adding an Oscar to his collection of awards.

On the other hand, the next winner of the Triple Crown of Acting could be someone entirely different. Glenn Close needs is that elusive Oscar. Meryl Streep only one Tony is missing. Even Catherine Zeta Jones could work with a little Emmy.

Time will tell who else will join the exclusive Triple Crown club. This is one horse race that is definitely worth following.
