The Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club hosted the SoCal Pro Tennis Series from June 17-23, featuring many up-and-coming local players.

Now in its third year, the SoCal Pro is a seven-week professional tennis event series for men and women on the USTA Pro Circuit and ITF World Tennis Tour. Organized by the USTA Southern California and held in San Diego and Los Angeles counties, the Rancho Santa Fe event was a combined men’s and women’s event with prize money of $15,000, the fourth in the series.

“The SoCal Pro Series was created to help young players from Southern California earn the points they need to compete on the major professional tours,” said John Chanfreau, manager of the RSF Tennis Club. “The tournament has helped many players in Southern California.”

“Our club is proud to be able to participate in and host this tour,” Chanfreau continued. “It is a testament to our commitment to helping young players in Southern California achieve their dreams.”

Several players from the local Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club competed in the tournament, including Jacob Brumm, the 8th seed, Rancho Santa Fe native who attended Torrey Pines High School; Alex Stafford, who now plays at Southern Methodist University; Ethan Schiffman, a longtime member entering his sophomore year at Cal Berkeley; and William Kleege, a rising junior who just won the 2024 CIF Championship and CIF doubles title with Torrey Pines.

The women’s doubles featured rising senior Alyssa Ahn from Torrey Pines, who made it to the quarterfinals.

The tournament began with a clash of former and current Torrey Pines players, with 25-year-old Brumm taking on Kleege. Brumm, who won his first professional tournament last year, beat Kleege 6-2, 6-1 in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals, where he lost to top-seeded Learner Tien, the eventual winner of the tournament.

On the final day, 15-year-old Carlsbad-based high school sophomore Julieta Pareja became the youngest singles champion in SoCal Pro Series history. The men’s doubles champions were Joshua Charlton and Patrick Maloney, while sisters Anna and Carolyn Campana, former college teammates, combined to win their first professional doubles title.

The next SoCal Tennis Series event will be June 24-30 at the Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates.
