Sustainability Champion Series: Ronald Cisneros

The administrator of the School of Pharmacy decides to use two wheels instead of four to get to campus.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Sustainability would like to recognize Ronald Cisneros as a Sustainability Champion! Cisneros has been at UMB for five years and is the administrative director of the Division of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR) in the School of Pharmacy. He focuses on procurement, travel, human resources, operations, and more.

Cisneros bikes to work every day he’s on campus and tries to encourage others to do the same. Cisneros emphasizes that biking to work is a great way to save on car-related costs (gas, insurance, maintenance, taxes, registrations, and parking) while also helping to get extra exercise. Cisneros incorporates biking into his life outside of work by prioritizing walking or biking around town over driving. In his household, Cisneros and his wife share a car, which also helps with costs and promotes a more active lifestyle.

When asked what UMB students, faculty and staff can do to contribute to sustainability efforts, Cisneros mentioned sustainable modes of transportation such as biking, walking, carpooling and taking the bus. He also encouraged participating in and/or organizing community and campus cleanups.

And finally: “Go O’s! And Ravens when it’s fall.”
