Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans star in Christmas action film Red One: Trailer

Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans are bringing Christmas early this year.

On June 25, Amazon MGM Studios released the first trailer for the Christmas action comedy Red Onewith Johnson, Evans and JK Simmons.

The film is about an ELF task force commander who teams up with a bounty hunter to save Christmas. Johnson, 52, plays Callum Drift alongside Evans, 43, as Jack O’Malley.

“After Santa Claus – codename: RED ONE – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s security chief (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most notorious bounty hunter (Evans) to save Christmas in an action-packed mission around the globe.”

In an Instagram post on June 24, Johnson shared artwork for the film that shows Simmons as Santa Claus on a missing persons poster.

“Missing cosmic force of hope and holiday spirit. Last seen at the North Pole. Please pass on any information to ELF,” the photo says.

The film was first announced in 2021 and is expected to hit theaters in 2023. The following year, it was reported that Evans had joined the cast.

In November 2022, the pair announced on Instagram that they had officially begun production. Johnson shared a photo of them standing in front of a festive, toy-laden backdrop. “It’s starting to look a lot like CHRISTMAS,” he wrote at the time.

In April, the former wrestler spoke to PEOPLE about being named PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2016, a title he shares with co-star Evans.

“I know them all pretty much,” he said of his fellow SMA winners. “Most recently, Chris Evans and I did a movie together. At the end of the day, my conversations with other SMA winners are always the same. I say, ‘Hey man, congratulations. Welcome to the club.’ They say, ‘Oh, thanks, Rock, I appreciate that,’ and I say, ‘Listen, just so you know, the thing about Sexiest Man Alive is that I’m actually the only one who has it forever. So you have it for a year — but I have it for life.'”

Red One based on an original story by Hiram Garcia, production manager of Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, with Jake Kasdan, who previously directed Johnson’s films Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its continuation Jumanji: The Next Level, as the Director and co-producer.

Chris Morgan, who Hobbs and Shaw And The fate of the angrywrote the screenplay and co-produced it. Lucy Lui, Bonnie Hunt, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll and Kiernan Shipka complete the cast.

Red One will be in cinemas on November 15th.
