Perrie has written a song about the end of a friendship that is so sad it makes her cry

Perrie revealed that she wrote a song about a former best friend that she can’t listen to without crying.

We’ve been living for Perrie Edwards’ solo career. After Little Mix took a break in 2022, fans were eagerly awaiting the girls’ solo music.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock made the move into solo music, Perrie soon followed and now Jade Thirlwall has confirmed that she will be releasing new music soon.

Perrie launched her solo career with the release of her song “Forget About Us”, followed by “Tears”, which she performed for the first time at Capital’s Summertime Ball.

Speaking to Capital Breakfast, she gave a preview of her third single and revealed that she has written a song about the end of a friendship that is so sad that she “can’t even listen to it without crying.”

Speaking to Zach Sang, Perrie said: “I wrote a song about a friendship that I no longer have. And I can’t even listen to that song without crying.”

She said that the end of a friendship can hurt just as much as the end of a relationship: “Because that’s love, like you feel so much love for that person.”

“It could be a family member, a best friend. When you really love that person very much and then they’re no longer in your life, it’s really difficult.”

Perrie said the song was full of “hard truths” about how “no matter what happened, we just didn’t agree.”

Perrie’s fans were of course quick to speak out about who they thought it could be, with most fans guessing former bandmate Jesy Nelson, who left the band in a somewhat frosty tone.

One fan posted: “Perrie and Jesy seemed really close during their time in Little Mix. I’m so excited to cry to this song.”

Others have speculated that it’s about an old friend she hasn’t been photographed with in years. According to fans via X, she was Perrie’s best friend, but in 2016 something happened between them and they ended their friendship.

Perrie hasn’t said who the song is about, and probably never will, but she has said she’s open to reviving it.

When asked if she would want the person to hear the song, she said, “Yes. Why not? Maybe hear some uncomfortable truths about themselves. Maybe it will help the person grow.”

“It was a huge moment in my life and they were a big part of my life, so it’s really sad how it all ended,” she said.

In her interview with Zach, she also revealed that she has written songs about her relationship, her family, heartbreak, and a love song to herself – you can be sure that the anticipation for the album is real!
