Shifty Shellshock, Crazy Town frontman and “Butterfly” singer dies at 49

The lead singer of the American rap rock band Crazy Town, Shifty Shellshock, has died.
The “Butterfly” singer – whose real name was Seth Binzer – was 49 years old. He died on Monday in an apartment in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner announced. The cause of death has not yet been announced.

The Los Angeles-based singer met Crazy Town co-founder Bret Mazur (aka Epic) in 1992 when they began making music under the name Brimstone Sluggers. The group then changed its name to Crazy Town and expanded its lineup to include Rust Epique, Doug Miller, James Bradley Jr., Antonio Lorenzo Valli and Adam Goldstein.
Her debut album The gift of the gamewas released in November 1999, and the band soon opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on tour. Their number one hit “Butterfly” (an ode to attractive women) debuted at number one on the Billboard 100 and catapulted the band’s album to platinum status in 2001.
The song is a sample of “Pretty Little Ditty” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and features Shellshock’s unique rap style for her legendary lyrics: “Come my lady, come-come my lady // You’re my butterfly, sugar baby”
Crazy Town took a break in 2003 after the release of their second album. Dark HorseHowever, the band reunited in 2007. They released their third album, The Brimstone Sluggersin 2015.
During the band break, Shellshock released his first solo album Happy Love Sick in 2004. The artist has also spoken openly about his struggle with addiction throughout his career and has appeared on reality TV shows including VH1’s Celebrity rehab And Sober House.
