Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock posted several cryptic messages on social media two months before his death.
In late April, the musician – who died on Monday at the age of 49 after battling addiction for most of his life – mentioned his personal struggles in his final Instagram posts before his death.
A post from April 28 contained the message: “The black sheep, the oddballs, the outcasts, the eccentrics, the loners, the lost and forgotten. Most of the time, these people have the most beautiful souls.”
On another Instagram account, Shellshock shared a photo with the words “True Love Long Beach” written on the ground along with hearts and pink flower petals. His caption read, “I’m more of a lover than a fighter…but the one I need to love more instead of fighting with is myself…Mr. Shifty True Love #Sober, Alive and Grateful.”
That same day, the “Butterfly” singer posted a photo of a man dressed in all black, including a mask, surrounded by men in all white. At the top of the photo, he wrote: “Real is rare, fake is everywhere.”
In his caption, Shellshock wrote: “To those who stay even when I try my best to scare them away 🖤.”
Shellshock posted another cryptic message on April 27. “Never fucking apologize for being yourself.”
The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that Shellshock (real name Seth Binzer) died at his home on June 24.
The cause of death is still unconfirmed.
Shellshock, co-founder of Crazy Town in 1995, spoke openly about his struggle with addiction.
He appeared twice on “Celebrity Rehab” and subsequently twice on its follow-up show “Sober House.”
In 2012, the rapper was hospitalized after losing consciousness and falling into a coma before regaining consciousness. Later that year, he was reportedly arrested for assault and cocaine possession and was sentenced to three years probation, according to Variety.
His spokesperson told TMZ at the time: “Seth has completely turned his life around and has checked himself into a reputable drug and alcohol addiction treatment center where he will work together over the next two years to restructure his life.”
Shellshock was arrested for drunk driving in Los Angeles in 2022. According to TMZ, he was charged with another drunk driving offense in Myrtle Beach in April 2023.
The “Revolving Door” singer spoke about his battle with addiction on the Punk Rock MBA podcast last year.
“I think I was too wild to stick around for long,” he said at the time. “I managed to survive a lot of crazy shit and got to the point where I was like, ‘I want to live.'”
He added: “It’s a whole new way of life that you have to slowly teach yourself. To do it right, you have to do more than just want to do it. Now, every day is just about finding inner peace and taking care of yourself.”
