(WGHP) — A singer and rapper known for an early 2000s radio hit has died, Variety and TMZ report.

Seth Binzer, known by his stage name “Shifty Shellshock,” died on Monday at the age of 49. He reportedly died at his home.

Shellshock was part of the nu-metal/rap group Crazy Town, which had a hit with the song “Butterfly” from their 1999 album “The Gift of Game”.

The band toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in support of their first album. (Crazy Town’s “Butterfly” used a sample from the Red Hot Chili Peppers song “Pretty Little Ditty.”) Crazy Town changed lineups and went on hiatus several times in the 2000s. The band was still touring in 2023 when a brawl outside a Myrtle Beach venue sparked controversy.

Shellshock struggled with addiction issues for much of his life and spoke extensively about his problems on the reality shows “Sober House” and “Celebrity Rehab.”

The cause of death was not initially disclosed.
