Man released on bail after murder charge against sports club

A man has been released on bail after appearing in court charged with murder following an incident outside a sports club.

Police were called to Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club near Hitchin, Hertfordshire, at around 10.30pm BST on Sunday 16 June.

The victim, known online as Grant Wallendorf, was allegedly attacked in the parking lot and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Oscar Jackson, 21, of Wilshere Crescent in Hitchin, was released on bail at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Jackson has not yet pleaded guilty to the charges.

A pre-trial hearing will take place in July, with the trial date set for November 18.

Det Ch Insp Nick Gardner, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Crime Unit, said: “This is a difficult time for the victim’s family.

“We have specially trained officers assisting you with this tragic incident and I would like to express my sincere condolences.

“I would like to thank the citizens who have helped on the ground from the beginning and everyone who has assisted us with information that supports our investigation.”

He asked anyone else with information to come forward.
