One Piece Chapter 1118 reveals Bonney’s new powers

One Piece Chapter 1118 reveals Bonney’s new powers

The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1118, “The Most Free,” by Eiichiro Oda, available in English.

The Egghead Island Arc in One pieceThe manga suffered from a bit of awkward pacing as it juggled Dr. Vegapunk’s long message about the world’s impending doom and some of history’s biggest battles to date. The manga felt disjointed as it tried to mix the scientist’s fascinating, if long, stream of information with the increasingly generic battle over Egghead. As Dr. Vegapunk continued to reveal the world’s truths, the Five Elders kept up the pressure, resulting in several samey chapters in a row. Thankfully Chapter 1118 ends the manga’s aimless story and brings the pace back on track.

It is unfortunate that Dr. Vegapunk’s message was interrupted by York and the Five Elders before Vegapunk could explain more about D.’s will, but One piece Fans are used to the series not holding its cards close to its chest, so this isn’t a problem. Chapter 1118, “The Freest,” is a return to form for this story arc. It features bombastic action, tight pacing, and the shocking revelation of Nika’s second incarnation. Jewelry Bonney has become Joy Girl, and there’s no turning back.

10 One Piece Details You Didn’t Know Were Only in the Anime

The anime adaptation of the manga “One Piece” has introduced new details into its anime canon over time that affect events throughout the storyline.

The Egghead Island Arc has finally fleshed out the backstory of Jewelry Bonney, one of the 11 Supernovas. Over the past few months One piece Fans learned that Bonney was the daughter of Ginny and was raised by her adoptive father Bartholomew Kuma, who told her about the great sun god Nika. Bonney was excited by the idea of Nika freeing people around the world with the drums of liberation. Now, in the present, Bonney looks up to Luffy as the incarnation of Nika and Joy Boy. Luffy’s groundbreaking transformation into Gear 5 not only changed his life, but Bonney’s as well, and Chapter 1118 offers some of that. Bonney admires Luffy not only as the new Nika/Joy Boy – She literally follows his example and transforms into Joy Girl.

Bonney had previously hinted at this by mimicking Luffy’s fighting style to some extent, making her feel more like a Straw Hat than ever before, even though her loyalty ultimately lay more with her missing father Kuma than her fellow Supernova members. Bonney’s shocking, exciting transformation into Joy Girl is a wonderful developmentespecially since it is the first time One piece Fans have even heard of a female counterpart to the symbolic Joy Boy. There are still many unanswered questions about how this works and what Bonney can do in her Joy Girl form. But for now, the triumphant transformation is enough to One piece Fans were delighted, especially by the chapter’s charming double-page spread showing Bonney’s new form. She even has the same hairstyle as Luffy’s Gear 5 form and similar eyes.

It is exactly like One piece to experience a highly impactful transformation or revelation in the middle of a busy chapter or anime episode, and this is one of the best examples so far. Until she rushes into battle in the upcoming chapter 1119, One piece Fans can have fun predicting how Bonney’s Joy Girl form will work, such as how she will use Nika’s “cartoon physics” in her fight against the fearsome Five Elders and the Marine fleet present on Egghead Island. If Luffy can play jump rope with Kaido and bang Saturn and Kizaru together like cymbals, then a moody child like Bonney can certainly use her imagination and do even more. However, time will tell how long Bonney’s Joy Girl form lasts and how strong (or not) she is compared to Luffy’s Joy Boy form. This fight probably won’t last much longer, as it is a battle retreat for One piece‘s heroes, so it probably won’t be a problem if Bonney’s Joy Girl form has a short time limit on her powers.

One piece Fans might therefore also wonder if Bonney will join the Straw Hats as a temporary or even permanent member. Bonney certainly has other obligations, but Luffy has a magnetic aura as a ship captain who carries the will of D., so it’s conceivable that Bonney will sail with the Straw Hats at least for now, fighting alongside her beloved Joy Boy. Even one incarnation of Nika makes the Straw Hats so much stronger, but two of them could make this crew unbeatable, even with villains like the Blackbeard Pirates and the sinister Cross Guild out there when the final war begins.

10 fights that changed the world in One Piece

One Piece is full of epic battles, but some battles can change the world itself. But which battle has truly shaken the world to its core?

One of the biggest problems of the last One piece Chapter is the Straw Hats’ drawn-out retreat, which just isn’t very interesting compared to everything else happening on the already crowded battlefield of Egghead Island. For story reasons, it’s obviously important to keep an eye on each Straw Hat as they try to escape this increasingly dangerous place. But even with a strong sense of urgencythe ongoing retreat feels like a mandatory sideshow at best. The Straw Hats have been in this “get out of here, quick!” situation before, such as when they fled Alubarna and Mr. 2 covered their retreat, not to mention the escape from Whole Cake Island pursued by Emperor Big Mom. However, these only worked because the narrative was clearly focused on such escape sequences. The escape from Egghead Island itself just feels like a distraction from the climactic battle between the pirates and the Five Elders and is just not as engaging.

This continues in Chapter 1118, which feels like a filler, with much better developments like Joy Girl, but at least there are signs that the ongoing retreat is almost over. Luffy, Sanji, Bonney, and a few others arrive at the Giant Warriors Pirates’ longships, where Luffy eats tons of food to restore Gear 5, just before Bonney transforms into Nika for the first time. In the meantime, there are plans to bring back Nami, Usopp, and Nico Robin, and ideally that will happen soon. The Straw Hats have already been scattered enough with this retreat. Getting everyone back together at the longships has to be the top priority, and there are some signs that this will be resolved in a chapter or two.

10 One Piece episodes at the peak of their successful series

One Piece is at its best when it relies on the series’ core traits: the power of friendship, the joy of discovery, and fantastic action.

In the last chapters One pieceThe manga felt like it was rushing through time, which may have frustrated some readers. This was the result of trying to juggle Dr. Vegapunk’s profound message, the world’s reaction to Saod’s message, Luffy’s struggles, the Five Elders’ hunt for the video transponder snail, and more. One piece often thrives when there’s a lot going on, but a combative retreat and a powerful message deserve to be the center of attention, and here they don’t fit well together. This has kept the last few chapters from reaching any real excellence, but that’s not the case in Chapter 1118, as Vegapunk’s video message is over for now. It’s a shame that readers won’t get to see the rest of Dr. Vegapunk’s message, but that’s obviously all the information Oda wants to spill at the moment. For now, fans can happily return to the action.

With fewer balls left to juggle, the narrative of One pieceThe manga can really focus on the fighting retreat, and that means Chapter 1118 has the best pacing of the last 10 chapters or so. This long retreat from Egghead Island to fight the Five Elders has been going on for some time, but the sense of urgency and action was always dampened when juggling it with Dr. Vegapunk’s message and the hunt for his video snail. Snippets of an action sequence and a chase don’t really deliver the desired results, but as Chapter 1118 shows, the retreat to Egghead is pretty exciting when that’s all that’s happening. Chapter 1118 is wonderfully focused, even if the fights still feel a bit generic.

This fight does not have a decisive duel, such as Luffy vs. Kaido or Roronoa Zoro vs. Pica, since Luffy’s fight against the fearsome Admiral Kizaru and the clash with Rob Lucci are both over. The fights in this chapter are mostly just action for its own sake, albeit with some cool mythical Zoan formsso this fight is pretty forgettable. That will all change when Joy Boy and Joy Girl enter the fray in the next chapter, and it should be fun to see them fight as a tag team against one or more of the Five Elders. The action isn’t great right now, but it serves its purpose, and the pacing is back on track, setting the stage for Nika’s two incarnations to really shine in the next chapter. For now, that’s good enough.
