Autopsy and toxicology examination of Riley Strain show that alcohol and drowning led to death

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)

Riley Strain’s autopsy and toxicology report indicate that alcohol contributed to his death by drowning.

The 22-year-old’s death was ruled an accident. The cause of death was given as drowning and ethanol poisoning, according to the Davidson County Coroner’s report released on Tuesday.

The medical examiner reported that Strain had a blood alcohol content of .228 – almost three times the legal limit for driving. Toxicology tests found isopropyl alcohol (a form of alcohol), caffeine, cotinine, nicotine and THC in his system.

The University of Missouri student disappeared on March 8 after being thrown out of a downtown Nashville bar. He was later discovered floating in the Cumberland River on March 22.

Nashville police were unable to provide evidence to support the crime allegations. Videos later released by nearby businesses show Strain stumbling and falling in Nashville after being thrown out of the bar.
