Shifty Shellshock, lead singer of Crazy Town, dies at 49

Shifty Shellshock, the lead singer of the rock band Crazy Town, has died at the age of 49.

News of Shellshock’s death was confirmed by the Los Angeles Coroner after he was found dead in his LA home on Monday (June 24).

At the time of writing this article (June 25), no cause of death was yet known.

Shellshock, whose real name was Seth Binzer, co-founded Crazy Town in 1999 after meeting fellow frontman Bret Mazur a few years earlier.

Over the years, the band released hits such as “Butterfly,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.

Although their debut album The gift of the gamesold over 1.5 million copies, the group split up after the successor in 2002, Dark horse.

They later reunited and released their third album, The Brimstone Sluggersin 2015.

Bizner has also worked as a solo artist over the years, previously collaborating with British producer and musician Paul Oakenfold to provide vocals on his 2002 song “Starry Eyed Surprise.”

In 2004, Bizner released his own album entitled “Happy Love Sick”.

Fans took to social media to share their surprise and pay tribute to Shellshock following the news of his death.

“RIP Shifty Shellshock from Crazy Town. There’s no denying that Butterfly was an absolute blast,” wrote one fan.

“Looks like Shifty Shellshock from Crazy Town died last night. Sad. Condolences to his family,” added another.

A third fan commented: “Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Shifty Shellshock of Crazytown. ‘Butterfly’ is, without irony, one of my absolute favorite songs.”

Shellshock had previously spoken openly to his fans about his experiences with drug abuse and was hospitalized and fell into a coma in 2012.

He remained in the public eye while trying to get sober, appearing on reality shows such as Celebrity Rehab 1 And 2 as well as Sober House 1and 2.

Eight weeks ago, Shellshock posted on Instagram about his sobriety, writing, “‘I’m more of a lover than a fighter… but the one I need to love more than fight with is myself… Mr. Shifty True Love #Sober,Alive and Grateful (sic).”

Under a photo of Shellshock on Instagram, a person who described himself as a fan of the singer commented: “RIP old friend… I remember you best as a kid on a skateboard with the whole world in front of you… love to your family.”
