More about Chris
Chris originally worked as a web developer before losing his sight and starting a career as a stand-up comedian in his twenties. In an interview with The Guardian, he was asked how the blind community had reacted to his success. He replied: “Everything has been very positive. My attitude has always been to represent the person by not beating them over the head. I think the best way to represent a disability is to make people forget it as much as possible. It’s always a part of you.”
“People are interested, you let them participate and you laugh about it. But if you can do a show that is, say, 80% not about blindness, then it’s more powerful and funnier to talk about it. I believe in representation within the mainstream. Integration rather than segregation. Don’t do a sketch show with five disabled comedians. Take those five disabled comedians and put them in five different shows. That’s the more powerful way.”
What else is Chris working on?
Chris stars alongside Lee Mack in a Christmas special for Sky called Bad news. The pair play feuding neighbors who become unexpected heroes when they save their street from burglars. It was written by Chris and Ghosts Stars: Laurence Rickard and Martha Howe-Douglas. Chris said: “A hasty idea that got out of control: we’re now making a Christmas comedy and it’s going to be brilliant. I can’t wait to get up to some hilarious mayhem with Lee and bring some festive cheer into people’s living rooms this Christmas!”
