at the beginning of June Gracie Abrams told Billboard that while they and Taylor Swift While they were writing their duet “us,” a fire broke out in Taylor’s apartment that they could barely put out. Then Gracie posted a video of the incident on Instagram. While promoting her new album, Gracie gave Apple Music Zane Lowe a detailed description of how everything happened.

“We almost burned down their house. Literally,” says Gracie Zane. She says she and Taylor went out to dinner and drank “a lot of alcohol.” Back at Taylor’s, they started playing each other songs from their then-unreleased albums; around 2 a.m. they started working on the duet. Then disaster struck.

Gracie says, “I heard a cracking noise from the other room. I was like, ‘What is that?’ And Taylor was like, ‘Oh, that’s probably my cat’ – whatever. We finished the bridge and went into the kitchen to get wine. There was a campfire burning on the kitchen island. It was a huge fireball.”

“When we got home, we had lit a candle that was so hot it burst,” Gracie continues. “And the base of the candle was some kind of wooden log… and it was burning, and it was about 6 a.m.”

Gracie adds: “I don’t know how she knew where it was, but (Taylor) runs, grabs a fire extinguisher and tries for minutes to get it to work, but it doesn’t work.”

“Eventually she let it out… and then we both had this crazy chest cough for weeks.”

When Zane asks why it was so difficult for Taylor to use the fire extinguisher, Gracie says, “It might have been because we were drunk.”
