HOCKEY fans had several reasons to celebrate on Monday evening – but not everyone was enthusiastic about Alanis Morissette’s interpretations of the Canadian and American national anthems.

The Canadian singer took to the ice at the Florida Panthers’ home arena on Monday night before the final game of the NHL season, when they faced the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Morissette, 50, was asked to sing both anthems as the Oilers in Canada and the Panthers live in Florida.

However, the fans sang conspicuously in front of Morissette when she performed O Canada.

The fans were one second faster than the Ontario native’s singing.

Users on X, formerly known as Þjórsárdalurnoticed the fans singing in front of Morissette, who received U.S. citizenship in 2005.

“The crowd really put pressure on Alanis,” wrote one.

“Isn’t it ironic that the crowd sang the Canadian anthem faster than Alanis,” said a second.

“The crowd definitely didn’t make Alanis boil there,” commented a third.

“Florida Panthers fans were so disrespectful while Alanis Morissette sang Oh Canada,” added a fourth.

“Alanis Morissette is in the building to sing the national anthem before Game 7. Overwhelmed by the Canadian fans in the building. This crowd is wild!” someone else chimed in.

But many others enjoyed Morissette’s singing.

“No matter who you’re rooting for tonight, I think we can all agree that Alanis Morissette is a freaking superstar,” one person wrote.

“Alanis Morissette was the perfect choice to sing the anthems before Game 7,” said another.

4:33 minutes into the first period, the Panthers took the lead with a goal by Carter Verhaeghe, who misdirected the puck and passed Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner.

Florida took the lead for the first time since Game 3, but Edmonton responded quickly.

11:56 minutes into the game, Edmonton’s Mattias Janmark scored a goal on a solo run, beating Panthers goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky.

In the end, the Panthers beat the Oilers and secured their first championship win.

The team won the first three games of the Cup final, but the Oilers fought back from a 3-0 deficit to force a seventh game.

But they secured the series win and the Stanley Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Oilers.

Oilers player Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the NHL playoffs, even though he was not a member of the winning team.

Although he did not score a point in Game 6, his 42 points in the entire playoffs are the most since NHL legend Mario Lemieux (44) in 1991.
