Commissioners appoint Chris Garner to Unsafe Construction Committee

Chris Garner, executive director of the Marshall County Neighborhood Center, was appointed by the county commissioners to the Unsafe Buildings Committee.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer told commissioners he has reached out to a few people for recommendations for a new member. The person must be involved in the county’s social services. Chris Garner was recommended.

Garner replaces Kathy Swank of Senior Services, who resigned from her position as the committee’s social services member. Garner’s position on the Unsafe Buildings Committee is effective immediately.

County commissioners also ratified the acceptance signature for a $109,176 grant to Older Adult Services to purchase two new transport carts.

Commissioner Stan Klotz told commissioners that AT&T wants to upgrade some of its equipment on the sheriff’s department’s communications tower. He said they plan to do a structural survey to make sure the equipment on the tower is OK and then upgrade the antennas on the tower.

Although AT&T has the right under the lease to enter the tower and make these improvements, the company wanted to give county commissioners and sheriff’s department personnel advance notice.

District Attorney Jim Clevenger said John Grolich told him about the plan to add something to the tower, and Commissioner Overmyer said they would pay for any item added to the tower through their lease with the county.

Commissioner Mike Burroughs said John Grolich will contact AT&T to determine if they will add equipment or simply upgrade it.
