Four joint projects successfully completed for Action Day 2024

Grass Valley, Calif., June 25, 2024. Despite warm temperatures last Saturday, volunteers from the United Way of Nevada County (UWNC) conducted community projects at four local nonprofits to honor the United Way’s Global Day of Action.

UWNC volunteers expanded the parking lot and assembled flower boxes for Community Beyond Violence, built a hay shed for Sundance Horse Rescue, cleaned and coated floors at Interfaith Food Ministry, and helped with landscaping at Gold Country Senior Services’ new senior center.

Every June, thousands of people around the world get involved in improving their local communities by volunteering with their local United Way organization. “We are so fortunate to have so many great nonprofits in our community, and our volunteers love to support them in any way they can,” said Louise Reed, executive director of the UWNC.

UWNC partnered with the Mankind Project (ncal.mkpusa.org) to volunteer at the women’s shelter operated by Community Beyond Violence and partnered with the 49er Rotary of Nevada City (49errotary.org) to clean the outside of Gold Country Senior Services’ brand new Senior Community Center.

BriarPatch Co-op provided coffee and a variety of healthy breakfast treats, and Northridge Restaurant Penn Valley offered delicious sandwiches for lunch. “We are so grateful for the support we are getting from the community for this project. We even heard that True Value is offering a discount on the wood used for the hay shed. This community is so good at helping each other,” Reed said.

United Way of Nevada County works with partner organizations to identify and fill gaps in social services so that all community members can meet basic needs for food, health, and clothing. All efforts focus on Nevada County residents. Support for these efforts comes from local donors and local volunteers.
