The Final Shape has revived my love for Destiny 2

The Final Shape has revived my love for Destiny 2

There’s a healthy dose of nostalgia for long-time fans too. Early missions reference the original Destiny Tower and where it all began when you met your Ghost. It’s a great reminder to us and the characters in Destiny 2 of how far we’ve come.

Prismatic is the new subclass that you can combine with elements from the other available subclasses, which makes for a nice change of pace, and I enjoyed gradually trying out new skills that were gradually instilled. The fact that you can combine these new Primatic skills with existing favorites means that dedicated players will have a lot of tinkering to do to find the best builds, mixing light and darkness in ways that can change how you approach combat.

The new faction, the Dread, an army of beings powered by darkness created by the Witness, includes a flying enemy, a first for the series. They fly in swarms and can dodge attacks and stun you with a screech. At inopportune moments, they can knock you off course when tackling some of the more fast-paced platforming challenges The Final Shape throws at you. There are also two new subjugation units, the Harbinger and the Omen. These giant goons deal high damage quickly by hurling you around the map with Strand attacks and use Stasis powers that force you to be stuck in place, which makes for a decent challenge. There’s too much reliance on enemies being shielded unless you get prismatic energy from puddles lying around everywhere (called “glitter dust” by my squad). This can be frustrating at times, but it all adds up to give The Final Shape a different flavor.
