Greenfield Recorder – Bulletin Board: New Fortune wins GMLB AAA championship with 8-5 victory over Rotary Club

The Greenfield Minor League baseball season concluded Monday as New Fortune and Rotary Club continued their AAA Division championship game, which had begun Thursday but was suspended due to weather.

Jason Philstetler hit an RBI double to give New Fortune a 6-5 lead when play was suspended in the second half of the fourth inning on Thursday. Collin Winslow added an RBI double when play resumed to cap a five-run quarterfinal victory for New Fortune before Rylan McIver scored on a passed ball in the second half of the fifth inning to give New Fortune the championship with an 8-5 victory at Lunt Field.

Winslow pitched the first three innings and added a single to seal the win. Sean Winslow pitched the final three innings and got a strikeout to seal the win.

Brock Puchalski recorded two hits and scored two runs, Emerson Maxam struck out two hits, while Blake Miner struck out a safe hit for the Rotary Club.

FC Summer League

Threat 5, Defender 2 — Haddie Connelly hit an RBI triple while Raine Wonsey and Adelaide Ehle hit triples in Menace’s Franklin County Summer Softball League victory over the Defenders on Monday at Murphy Park.

Amelia Rider, Charlie Vera Fellows (RBI) and Kylee Gamache hit safely, while Wonsey recorded 18 strikeouts in the win.

Talia Garretson had two hits and an RBI, while Gianna Disciullo hit safely and Emily Kajka had nine strikeouts for the Defenders.

Northfield open

Jesse Morgan took first place with a score of 71 in the A Division of the Northfield Open at Northfield Golf Club on Saturday.

Kevin Harrington, Jeff Jackman and Chris Ferriter tied for second (75). Noah Harrison, Andy Sena and Mike Korpita tied for the bottom net (72).

Ike Purington posted the lowest score in the B division (78), followed by Paul Barnard in second place (82), while Brad Letourneau and Brian Frank tied for third place (89). Lloyd Grover (66), Jon Snow (69) and Doug Field (70) posted the lowest net scores.

Among the women, Joan Fitzgerald had the lowest gross score (94), followed by Janet Small (100). Deb Putnam (74) and Camilla Thacher (84) had the lowest net scores.

The winners of the drive closest to the pin were Brad Tryba at No. 6 (9 feet, three inches), Neil Black at No. 7 (5-3.5), Cam Merrigan at No. 15 (11-5) and Jackman at No. 16 (15-7). The winners of the longest drive were Letourneau (305 yards) and Thacher (185) at No. 9 and Letourneau (303) and Putnam (111) at No. 18.

Phyllis Canon Invitation

Terry Boyce and Katie Vitello took first place with a score of 66 at the Phyllis Canon Invitational at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.

Lana O’Connor and Sabrina Mancini took second place (70), followed by Valerie Esquer and Julia Wallace (71), Meaghan Sullivan and Lynn Burke (72), Diane Carme and Raye Young (73) and Sally Malloy and Robin Hartnett (75).

Theresa Collins and Michelle Morgan hit deep (62), followed by Lisa Sullivan and Corrine Sysun (63), Nancy Robie and Jess Lapachinski (65), Charlotte Ackerman and Liz Wilson (66) and Ellen Bitzer and Dawn Bete (66).

Danica Hochstetler won in the “next to the pin” position, while Lara Gross won in the “next to the line” position.

Greenfield Tennis Cup

The Greenfield Tennis Cup has been rescheduled for next Saturday, June 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Beacon Courts in Greenfield.

The tournament will be played in a singles and round robin format and will include a men’s and a women’s division. The tournament is open to players high school age and older. Tennis balls will be provided. Call Rick Miner at 413-824-1695 to register. Registration closes Friday at 6 p.m.
