Representatives of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz are imminently in talks with a La Liga club about a possible move away from Anfield this summer.

Diaz, 27, has been frequently linked with Barcelona and there has been speculation that he could leave Liverpool for Spain sooner rather than later.

The Colombian’s contract expires in 2027, but unlike other Liverpool stars who signed new deals after their move, he will continue to be subject to the same terms he agreed to in 2022.

Diaz joined from Porto in January 2022 on an initial £37.5 million contract and made a big impression in his first few months on Merseyside.

However, his performances in recent seasons have caused controversy, with fans dismayed at the frequency with which he misses chances.

The lack of a new contract and these performance issues mean that Diaz’s future is uncertain.

Last season he scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 51 Liverpool games.

Although Barca are known to be interested, the Catalan giants are unlikely to have the funds to pull off a deal of this magnitude this summer without making a significant outlay of their own.

Liverpool cuts Diaz’s demands

Raphinha has emerged as a key player in any deal involving Diaz, with Barca management believing the Brazilian winger could be sacrificed to make way for their dream transfer.

In addition, it has been reported that Liverpool’s demands for Diaz have now turned out to be significantly lower than the demands they gave to Barca in initial talks a few months ago.

At the time, Barça club president Joan Laporta was informed that they would need 120-140 million euros to sign the former Porto star this summer, which was considered “unfeasible” for the team from the Camp Nou.

However, recent reports suggest that the Reds would now settle for £50 million, which would be a win for the striker.

“Everything is ready” for Diaz’s departure

Colombian journalist Breinner Arteta Canizares, who follows the national team, claims that a meeting between Diaz’s camp and an as-yet-unnamed La Liga team is now planned during the Copa America in the USA next week.

Although Barcelona are not mentioned by name in the report, it is highly unlikely that any other team in the Spanish league other than Real Madrid would have the means to sign Diaz. However, they did sign Kylian Mbappe.

“(Luis Diaz)’s entourage will have a meeting with representatives of a Spanish club in the United States this week or next. The Colombian national team winger would have everything prepared to leave Liverpool FC and move to La Liga,” said a post on social media site X, formerly Twitter.

It is not yet known what Liverpool’s new transfer team, consisting of sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG football managing director Michael Edwards, intend to do with Diaz, but the Reds have been linked with numerous outside attackers this transfer window.

Players such as Brajan Gruda, Mohammed Kudus, Bryan Mbeumo and Dario Osorio have all been mentioned as possible new signings.
