On Tuesday and for the rest of the week, residents in the Killeen area can expect dangerously high temperatures; a heat warning is in effect for the entire area, the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth said.
NWS meteorologist Allison Prater told the Herald that high temperatures will range between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius through early next week, with increased humidity pushing heat indices above 38 degrees to nearly 40 degrees Celsius daily.
“Our criteria for a heat warning is a temperature of 103 degrees and a heat index of 105 degrees. We meet the criteria over the next few days and a heat warning is in effect for today and tomorrow… If the heat index of 105 degrees continues, it (the heat warning) will likely be extended into late week,” she said.
Prater recommends drinking plenty of water, wearing light, loose clothing, taking plenty of breaks indoors and avoiding long periods of time outdoors.
Sunny weather is forecast all day for Tuesday, with highs of 97 degrees and a heat index of up to 105 degrees.
For the rest of the week, each day is expected to be a mirror image of itself. Maximum temperatures will remain around 36 to 37 degrees and there is expected to be plenty of humidity.
