That’s why Ariana Grande says her speaking voice changed so much after an interview clip went viral

Ariana Grande’s incredible singing voice has been her trademark for over a decade – but recently her fans have also been making comments about her speaking voice.

In March, many people noticed that Ariana seemed to be struggling to shake off her character’s voice from “Wicked” during her Oscars performance, and compared the situation to Austin Butler’s drawling accent after Elvis performances.

The Grammy winner recently sat down with her “The Boy Is Mine” co-star Penn Badgley on his podcast “Podcrushed,” where listeners noticed that the “Into You” singer’s voice seemed to change from sentence to sentence.

In a 10-second TikTok that has already had nearly six million viewers, Ariana can be seen with a deeper voice before suddenly switching to a higher pitch.

“The voice change??” was the caption of the clip, which provoked a reaction from the woman herself.

In a comment, Ariana wrote that the change was due to “habit,” as she “spoke like that” for two years for her role as Glinda in “Wicked,” as well as “vocal health.”

She continued, “I change my vocal pitch (high/low) often and intentionally, depending on how much I sing.”

“I’ve always done it that way,” she insisted, then quickly added, “BYE.”

Ariana released her seventh album, “Forget Me Not,” earlier this year, and the singer will end 2024 with the release of the long-awaited film “Wicked,” in which she plays the role of Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba.

“Wicked” features an all-star cast that includes Jonathan Bailey of “Bridgerton,” Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Broadway actor Ethan Slater and screen favorite Jeff Goldblum.
