LMPD identifies suspect vehicle in connection with Louisville club shooting

The Louisville Metro Police Department said Monday it had identified a suspect vehicle in connection with Saturday’s shooting outside the H20 Lounge that left one man dead and seven others injured, one in critical condition.

Lt. Les Skaggs of the LMPD Homicide Unit said the vehicle identified was a light colored Chevrolet Tahoe, possibly a 2007-2014 model. He said the vehicle may have been damaged by gunfire and may have been rendered inoperable after the incident. He said he believes the damage is in the front of the vehicle and it would not have been able to travel very far.

“We know someone knows where this vehicle is,” Skaggs said. “We are desperately trying to find this vehicle because we believe it will lead us to identifying a suspect in this case.”

The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. Saturday outside the H20 Lounge, a nightclub on the corner of 25th Street and Broadway, where Skaggs said about 40 people were standing. He said all eight victims were shot outside the club.

The victim killed in the shooting was identified as 40-year-old Joseph D. Bowers of Indianapolis.

The critically injured victim was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Skaggs said there is no update on the victim’s condition and they have not received any further information at this time.

Skaggs said at this point, they believe there is only one suspect in connection with the shooting.

The LMPD’s homicide unit has seen a “dramatic increase” in the number of murders in recent years, Skaggs said. “Detectives, like everyone else in the police department, are being asked to do more and more,” he said.

In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mayor Craig Greenberg said Saturday’s shooting “makes it painfully clear that we must do more to stop the gun violence that is plaguing our city.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the LMPD’s anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673. Photos of the suspect vehicle are available on the LMPD’s Facebook page.
