It was a storybook ending for a Vols team that had lost the first game of the finals to the Aggies. Zander Sechrist took the win with 5 1/3 innings pitched, seven strikeouts and just one run allowed. Kirby Connell made two timely outs in the eighth inning. And Combs finally sealed the deal with a strikeout of Aggies superstar Jace LaViolette.

After the game, Vitello simply said, “These days, kids are tough. These guys will do anything you ask of them.”

This is how the baseball world reacted to the Vols’ courageous victory.
