Boxer Roy Jones Jr. announces suicide of his son DeAndre

Roy Jones Jr.’s son DeAndre Jones has died. He was 32.

DeAndre committed suicide on Saturday, June 22, Roy Jr. confirmed in a statement on Monday, June 24.

The 55-year-old boxing legend released a statement on Instagram informing the public of DeAndre’s death. “Sadly, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” Jones wrote.

“I am so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family,” Jones continued.

“I know many people are going through difficult times right now, but nothing is worth taking your life for,” he wrote. “God exists and God should be the one to take it away.”

“Please respect our privacy as my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support,” he concluded.

DeAndre was one of three children Roy Jr. has with his wife Natlyn Jones. The couple also has Roy III and DeShaun Jones.

Several people commented on the post and expressed their condolences for the loss of the Jones family.

UFC champion Mike Swick wrote: “I was in a very similar situation when I was young and feel your pain and confusion. I couldn’t agree with you more! Stay strong champ!! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ».”

“My deepest condolences brother, I am so sorry. Praying for your family. πŸ™πŸΌ,” wrote former boxer Amir Khan.

Roy Jr. is known as a world boxing champion who has won in several weight classes, from lightweight to heavyweight. The celebrated boxer has 66 victories in his 29-year career, 47 of which were by knockout, according to Sky News.

In February 2018, he retired from boxing after 75 professional fights.
