Black doctor publishes new STEM book for children of color

Nationwide — Robert W. Sessoms, MD, has published a new 32-page STEM pocket book for children of color entitled Uncle Julius and the Science GangHe says he wrote the book because only 6% of medical students are African American and he wants to encourage more children of color to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).Published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc., Uncle Julius and the Science Gang follows three young characters – Joshua, Sean, and Yolanda (also known as the Science Gang) – who spend time with Uncle Julius and ask him their many questions about everything from healthy eating to how fish breathe and airplanes fly.

Who better to ask than story-telling Uncle Julius, who always seems to have an understanding answer to everything? Uncle Julius gives sound advice, using his personal experiences to make virtually any topic understandable.

Imagination is Everything reminds kids that sometimes they just need someone to talk to and is a great way to start conversations about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) topics.

Topics covered in the book include:

• How do fish breathe underwater?
• How do airplanes fly?
• What’s wrong with junk food?

The book is available at UncleJulius.com and Amazon.
