TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

The Lamont Boys and Girls Club is just one of the camps celebrating National Boys and Girls Club Week around the world. With this year’s theme, “Level Up,” the club hopes to pave the way for the future of youth.

According to Jose Pinto, the club’s program director, the purpose of National Boys and Girls Club Week is to highlight the camp’s mission and services.

“We have specific themes to promote our mission – to empower young people,” Pinto explained.

The club opened the celebration on Monday and invited parents to watch the various programs offered on site, such as e-sports.

Through games like these, kids participate in group activities, developing their teamwork and leadership skills. And not only are they improving their video game skills, but Pinto says their career-ready activities are preparing them for the workforce, too.

“The children will have the opportunity to create lottery tickets based on the career they want to pursue when they grow up,” Pinto explained.

Loteria is also known as Mexican bingo. According to Pinto, each child made a cardboard cutout of a playing card with the profession of their choice.

“They’ve made a blueprint of what they want to be and what it takes to be an engineer, an artist or a photographer, and they’ve done some research on that,” Pinto said. “On Wednesday they’ll have the opportunity to present why they want to do that. We’re just trying to spark that curiosity.”
